Nile Cruise Duration Optimizer ?3N / 4N / 6N / 7N

Four cruise lengths are sold. They are not equal. The 3-night is a sampler. The 4-night adds sailing. The 6- and 7-night start from Cairo and add the Delta or the pyramids. This tool scores them against your nights, interest, budget, and pace.

What this solves

Most "Nile cruise" articles compare boats and miss the duration question. The four options are not interchangeable:

How to read the result

Each duration is scored 0?00 on three dimensions: fit to your interest, fit to your pace preference, and value at your budget tier. The result is a ranked list with a one-paragraph rationale per option. Reference rate ~50 EGP/USD.

Sailing reality. Between Luxor and Aswan, the Nile has four locks. Most 3N/4N cruises motor through the locks; only the longest and the small dahabiyas actually sail significant miles. If relaxation matters, ask whether your boat uses sail or motor ?most are motor-only.

Site count. 3N hits ~5? sites; 4N ~7?; 6N ~10?2; 7N ~12?4. The extra sites in 6N/7N are pyramids or the Abu Simbit detour from Aswan, not extra Nile temples.

Limitations

FAQ

Is a 3-night cruise too rushed?

For a sampler, no ?it hits the four main sites. For deep coverage, yes. The biggest cost is that you have almost no sailing time; the boat becomes a moving hotel.

Why do 6N/7N start from Cairo?

Because they include the train from Cairo to Luxor (overnight sleeper or daytime express) plus 3? days sailing. The Cairo start adds a pyramid visit and the option of the train ?much cheaper than flying.

Which duration for photography?

4N minimum ?you want at least one sunrise sailing shot. 6N+ gives you golden-hour boat time at multiple sites.

Best for first-time visitors?

4N is the safest answer. 3N if your time is tight; 6N+ if you've already done Cairo.

About this tool

What it is. A scoring tool for the 3N/4N/6N/7N Nile cruise duration question. Inputs are nights available, top interest, budget per night, and pace. Output is a ranked comparison with rationale.

Who it's for. Travellers trying to choose between the four standard Nile cruise lengths sold by operators. Useful for first-timers who don't realise "3 nights" and "4 nights" hit different sites in different orders.

What it isn't. Not a substitute for checking whether the boat uses sail or motor. Not a substitute for asking the operator what specific sites are included.

Limitations. Operator pricing varies; the figures assume mid-range class. Treat as a planning estimate.
